Did the Stimulus Fail In Columbus, Ohio? Not From What I Can See!

27 Aug

Restore Our Future, a super PAC, has been airing a commercial that asserts that the Stimulus failed, yet almost every city in the Columbus metropolitan area received stimulus money.  So, did the stimulus fail all those cities?

No, it didn’t.  In fact, it’s quite amazing how much money has poured into the city and all of it’s suburbs.  Last summer, I had to contend with driving through three different road projects on a regular basis.  And, as you approached each project there  was a sign informing you that the funding came from the Stimulus.

Maybe if the sign simply read “Funded by Stimulus” more people would have made the connection.

Unfortunately, the signs used the official name, The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009; which might explain why people seem not to realize all of these projects were funding by the demonized Stimulus.  According to The Columbus Dispatch, “more than $3 billion in federal stimulus funding so far from about 6,300 grants flowing to agencies in Ohio’s 88 counties.”  Too bad there weren’t visual signs informing Ohioans of all the funding for education, research, the military, and to help the poor.

Organizing for America and the Democratic Party needs to put out commercials highlighting the projects funded by the Stimulus.  From construction workers to researchers at OSU to teachers in the suburbs have all benefited from funding from the Stimulus.  So, in the “trickle down” philosophy of Republicans, we all have benefited from the Stimulus.

With just under three months until the election, the people of Ohio need to know the truth about how we’ve benefited from the Stimulus because we have!

List of projects in Franklin County (which would include Columbus and it’s suburbs) funded by The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 compiled by The Columbus Dispatch
