In August, President Obama finally raised more money than Mitt Romney. According to a story on NPR, this was “the first time in four months” that Romney was out-raised, so shouldn’t he be leading in the national polls?
If I was someone donating to Romney’s campaign or worse yet someone donating to one of the super PACs, I would feel apprehensive about throwing my good money after bad. These fundraising numbers do not include money raised by the super PACs, so how can Romney still be losing if the President is being outspent?!?!
We still have to wait until after the election, but if President Obama wins the election, that will prove that elections are harder to buy than people think. Yet, if Republicans had a better candidate, would their fundraising be more influential with voters? That makes overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision all the more important before the 2016 election.
But until then, I’d like to hear more media outlets highlight how little influence spending for Mitt Romney’s campaign is having on voters.
